KANO HIGH COURT CONVICTS FOUR ARMED ROBBERS, SENTENCES THEM TO 10 YEARS IMPRISONMENT

A Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Adam Abdullahi on Tuesday, sentenced four armed robbers—Shafi’u Abubakar, Usman Suleiman, Usman Sa’idu, and Ali Isa—to 10 years in prison and a fine of N10,000.
The defendants faced three charges, including criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, which are punishable under Sections 97 and 298(c) of the Penal Code.
All four convicts, residents of Rijiyar Lemo, Kano, conspired to carry out armed robberies in residential homes in Sabon Garin Doka and Bankaura communities in Ungogo Local Government Area.
According to the first count, on 22nd July 2024, between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m., the defendants, armed with deadly weapons, broke into the homes of Abdullahi Musa (Bankaura Quarters, Ungogo LGA) and Mansur Muazu (Sabon Garin Doka, Ungogo LGA), attacked the residents, and stole valuables. This act constitutes an offense under Section 97 of the Penal Code.
The second count states that on the same date, at around 3:00 a.m., the defendants attacked and robbed Abdullahi Musa at his residence in Bankaura Quarters, Ungogo LGA. Stolen items included an Infinix phone valued at N50,000, a Tecno keypad phone valued at N5,000, a Lifan motorcycle worth N700,000, and cash totaling N800. This constitutes an offense under Section 298(c) of the Penal Code.

The third count states that at approximately 4:00 a.m. on 22nd July 2024, the defendants attacked and robbed Mansur Muazu at his residence in Sabon Garin Doka, Ungogo LGA, stealing N201,000 in cash and 500 CFA. This act is also punishable under Section 298(c) of the Penal Code.
To prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, the prosecution, led by Barrister Ibrahim Garba Arif, called two witnesses.
The defendants, represented by Barrister Basira Yunus, later changed their plea from “not guilty” to “guilty.”
The court conducted a summary trial, found the defendants guilty on all three counts, and sentenced them to 10 years imprisonment with a fine of N10,000 for each count.
The court ordered that the sentences run concurrently, commencing from the date of their arrest on 22nd July 2024.
