The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has condemned the recent killings in Angwan Rukuba community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, describing the incident as a tragic reminder of persistent violence in the region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, MACBAN President, Baba Ngelzarma, expressed condolences to the families of the victims and stressed that no religious, ethnic, or political grievance could justify the loss of innocent lives.
He warned that the recurring cycle of violence in Plateau State continues to undermine peaceful coexistence and threaten national unity, noting that the state has long suffered from division, mistrust, and retaliatory attacks.
Ngelzarma also raised concerns about the role of some religious leaders and influencers, accusing them of fueling tensions through inflammatory statements rather than promoting peace and tolerance. He urged leaders across religious, traditional, and community lines to exercise restraint and foster dialogue.
The MACBAN president called on security agencies to act decisively by identifying, investigating, and prosecuting those responsible for the violence, including individuals inciting unrest. He further urged authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, enhance security presence in vulnerable communities, and promote grassroots peacebuilding initiatives.
“Nigeria cannot afford to normalise mass killings. The sanctity of human life must remain non-negotiable. The time for decisive action is now,” he said.
The attack, which occurred on Sunday in Angwan Rukuba, reportedly left several residents dead and others injured. Meanwhile, the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has described the incident as heinous and assured residents that those responsible would be brought to justice.
