The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has refuted claims circulating in some media platforms that he had resigned from his appointment.
Adelabu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bolaji Tunji, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Tuesday that the report was false and misleading. He urged journalists to verify information before publication to uphold professionalism in the media.
The rumours suggested that the minister stepped down to focus on his 2027 Oyo State governorship ambition, but Tunji dismissed these claims, stressing that no resignation had been tendered.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed all political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign on or before March 31, 2026. The directive, issued under Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, was communicated via a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume.
Officials affected are required to submit formal resignation letters through the SGF’s office to ensure compliance with electoral laws, promote transparency, and maintain a level playing field for all aspirants.
The presidency reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening democratic institutions and promoting credible electoral processes, urging all concerned officials to strictly adhere to the directive.
