President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, has pledged that the body will fully implement the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport over the disputed 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

Motsepe made the commitment on Wednesday during a visit to Senegal, coming 22 days after CAF’s Appeal Committee controversially awarded the tournament title to Morocco.

The decision, announced on March 17, overturned the result of the AFCON final played on January 18, in which Senegal had defeated Morocco 1-0 on the pitch. CAF ruled in favour of Morocco with a 3-0 scoreline, citing the withdrawal of Senegal’s players from the field during the match.

The ruling triggered outrage in Senegal, with the government calling for an international investigation into alleged corruption within CAF. The Senegalese Football Federation subsequently filed an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Addressing the situation, Motsepe acknowledged that the matter is now under legal review and assured that CAF would abide by the outcome.

“These issues are now before the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and we will respect and implement whatever decision is taken,” he said.

He added that his visit to Senegal was aimed at strengthening ties with the country’s football authorities, government, and people, while also helping to ease tensions generated by the controversy.

Motsepe emphasised that CAF’s focus remains on the growth and development of football across the continent, noting that the governing body is committed to unity among its member associations.

The CAF president is expected to continue his diplomatic engagements with a visit to Morocco, as part of efforts to calm the situation surrounding the disputed title.
