FALEKE ENDORSES HAMZAT FOR LAGOS GOVERNORSHIP RACE AHEAD OF 2027

A member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, has endorsed the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat, as the next governor of the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
Faleke made the declaration in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, calling on his supporters and members of the All Progressives Congress to rally behind Hamzat as preparations for party primaries intensify.
“Good evening all. As we prepare for party primaries next month, I urge all our supporters in Ikeja Federal Constituency and Lagos State to support Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as the next Governor of Lagos State from 2027–2035 IJN. Amen!” he wrote.
The endorsement comes amid reports that the APC is considering a consensus arrangement to adopt Hamzat as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Lagos State.
Party stakeholders are also said to be backing the senator representing Ogun West, Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for Ogun State, and the senator representing Oyo South, Sharafadeen Alli, for Oyo State.
The reported alignments followed a meeting of APC stakeholders from the South-West with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on March 23, where party strategy and candidate selection ahead of the 2027 general elections were discussed.
Sources familiar with the meeting said the decisions were reached after extensive deliberations, taking into account the popularity and acceptability of the proposed candidates in their respective states.
Among those said to have attended the meeting were Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele; and governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dapo Abiodun, and Biodun Oyebanji, alongside other top party stakeholders.
The development is expected to shape political alignments within the APC in the South-West as the 2027 elections approach.
