Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has approved the release of N123.5 billion for contractors handling newly approved and ongoing road projects across the state.

The approval was disclosed in a statement dated April 10, 2026, signed by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah.

According to the statement, the funds were approved following the State Executive Council’s nod for both new and ongoing road projects, with the amount covering key financial obligations tied to their execution.

The government said the sum would be used for mobilisation fees, right-of-way compensation, and the settlement of outstanding Interim Payment Certificates (IPCs) owed to contractors.

It added that the projects span over 167 kilometres of roads across different parts of the state. Key projects include the Ikwe–Odio Road; the six-lane dualisation of Nnung Udoe–Afaha Offiong–Afaha Nsit with a rotary intersection; the dualisation of Afaha Offiong–Ikot Imoh–Itreto; and the reconstruction of the Ikot Akpaden–Okorete–Iko Road, which also features two mini bridges in Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas.

Providing a breakdown, the statement noted that N69 billion has been earmarked for newly awarded projects, while N54.5 billion will be used to service outstanding payments and additional works on existing projects.

The government explained that the timely release of funds is intended to accelerate construction activities and ensure contractors fully utilise the ongoing construction season.

It added that the move reflects the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development under its ARISE Agenda, aimed at expanding and improving critical road networks across the state.
