Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi, widely known for his role in the Yoruba classic Owo Blow, has made a return to acting after spending time away from the screen, during which he reportedly worked as a commercial bus driver in Lagos.
His comeback was revealed by fellow actor Adeniyi Johnson, who shared a photo of Afolabi on a movie set via Instagram on Sunday, suggesting a return to active film production.
Johnson disclosed that Afolabi is currently part of a new film titled ILEKE, produced by Seyi Edun and directed by Adebayo Tijani. He also noted that the actor is now available for roles both within and outside Lagos, describing him as versatile and professional.
Afolabi’s return follows the circulation of a viral video showing him working around a Lagos commercial bus, where he was seen assisting passengers and calling out destinations, which sparked concern among fans over his wellbeing.
In a previous 2025 interview with Kunle Afod, Afolabi reportedly spoke about personal struggles, including the loss of his wife, which affected his life and career. He also explained that he turned to commercial driving as a means of survival while awaiting acting opportunities.
The actor, who rose to fame in the 1990s and early 2000s Yoruba film industry, has featured in several productions including Luwo Gbagida (2025), The Lost Heir (2018), and The Herbert Macaulay Affair (2019). His most recent appearance before this comeback was in the Africa Magic series Itura in 2023.
His return to set has since drawn positive reactions from fans and colleagues, many of whom had earlier called for support for the veteran actor.
