Nigerian comedian and former Big Brother Naija housemate, DeeOne, has stirred controversy after claiming that most protests in Nigeria are politically driven.

Speaking on Vanguard’s podcast on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, DeeOne alleged that about 90 per cent of protests in the country are sponsored by political interests, rather than being purely spontaneous expressions of public grievances.

He argued that politicians often work behind the scenes by funding or supporting protest movements to advance certain agendas or undermine their rivals.

He said the trend makes it difficult for Nigerians to distinguish genuine protests from those allegedly driven by political interests.

“There’s always an agenda behind most of them,” DeeOne stated.

His comments have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some users backing his claim.

However, another user, @NaijaCitizenX, disagreed, writing: “Saying 90% of protests are sponsored is wild. People are hungry, frustrated and tired. Not everything is politics.”
