Troops of the Nigerian Army have successfully repelled an early morning attack by suspected terrorists in Kemanji community, located in the Kaiama area of Kwara State.

The incident was confirmed by Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, in a post on his official X account.

He said the attack happened around 3:00 a.m., with soldiers stopping the assailants from entering the community.

According to him, several of the attackers were neutralised, and an attempted kidnapping was also foiled.

However, the governor confirmed that three soldiers lost their lives during the operation.

He expressed condolences to the families of the fallen personnel, describing them as heroes who paid the supreme price.

He also assured that efforts would be intensified to strengthen security and support affected families.

Meanwhile, the incident has sparked reactions from residents, with some raising concerns about the government’s preventive security measures.

An X user, Nura, criticised the response, arguing that reacting after an attack points to a failure in proactive security measures.

Another commenter, Adeyemi Ishola, also expressed frustration over what he described as a lack of visible leadership, saying more attention should be directed toward addressing security challenges in the state.

He wrote, “While you are busy playing Abuja politician and chairman of everything in the FCT, our brothers in Kaiama are being used for target practice. You only remember you’re the Governor of Kwara when it’s time to tweet condolences. Go home and do the work we elected you for,” in a direct jab at the governor.

Similarly, Tunde Adeniji called on the government to go beyond issuing condolences and instead implement effective measures to prevent future attacks.

The reactions reflect growing concern among residents over the need for stronger and more proactive security strategies in vulnerable communities.
