YOBE APPROVES ₦59.8 BILLION FOR ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND OTHER PROJECTS

The Yobe State Executive Council has approved ₦59.8 billion to accelerate the implementation of key projects and services previously endorsed by the government.

The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information and Culture, Alhaji Abdullahi Bego, made this known after the council meeting held in Damaturu on Monday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the approvals span multiple sectors, including road construction, healthcare, transportation, energy, commerce, and sports development.

Bego added that ₦34.1 billion was earmarked for road projects, notably the 59-kilometre Kaliyari–Baymari road and the 53-kilometre Bayamari–Geidam road.

He stated that ₦8.5 billion was approved for the construction of the Jajimaji Modern Market, along with external works at the Machina and Buni Yadi modern markets.

“In the transport and energy sectors, ₦5.3 billion was ratified for the procurement of new 800KVA power generators, as well as the installation of underground armoured cables and switchgear at the Government House in Damaturu.

“The approval also covers the procurement and installation of 2,200 units of integrated 100-watt (all-in-one) solar-powered streetlights across 11 local government headquarters, including Bara, Babbangida, Dapchi, Yunusari, Fika, Damagum, Nangere, Jakusko, Jajimaji, Machina, and Yusufari,” he said.

Others are the construction of a 33 KV line from Bukarti to Kanamma, procurement of transformer substations and distribution networks in Kanamma, and provision of new power generators at Specialist Hospital, Family Support Hospital, and Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Damaturu.

Bego said N5.5 billion has been validated for various healthcare projects, while N3.3 billion has been allocated for additional works in the ongoing reconstruction and upgrade of the August 27 Stadium, Damaturu.
