The Executive Director of Development Specs Academy, Prof. Okey Ikechukwu, has described Peter Obi’s defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) as an act of political self-preservation.

He made the comment on Tuesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Morning Show.

Ikechukwu also linked Obi’s move, alongside former NNPP presidential candidate Rabi’u Kwankwaso, to what he called “strategic porting.”

According to him, “Peter Obi simply ran for his political life. A woman fleeing a lion does not do a catwalk; that is the situation Peter Obi has found himself in.”

He further noted that Obi’s move to an unexpected political platform could reshape the 2027 elections.

“Peter Obi has moved to a platform no one anticipated, one that could potentially ensure more genuine elections in 2027.

“Now the APC and other parties will need to recalibrate. Different scenarios will have to be examined because the argument has now shifted. The opposition is fragmenting itself,” he added.
