Real Madrid have confirmed that midfielders Federico Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni have apologised to each other following the training ground incident that sparked widespread reports of unrest inside the club’s dressing room.

In an official statement released on Friday, Real Madrid announced that both players were investigated as part of internal disciplinary proceedings opened after the incident earlier this week.

The club said Valverde and Tchouameni “expressed full remorse” over what happened and also apologised to the club, teammates, coaching staff and supporters.

Real Madrid subsequently confirmed that both players have been fined €500,000 each, adding that the internal disciplinary process has now been concluded.

The latest development comes after Real Madrid earlier confirmed that Valverde suffered a traumatic brain injury and would miss Sunday’s El Clásico clash against FC Barcelona after being advised to rest for between 10 and 14 days under medical protocols.

The Uruguay international later broke his silence in a statement posted on Instagram on Thursday, where he denied reports claiming he was involved in a physical fight with Tchouameni.

“During the argument, I accidentally hit a table, causing a small cut on my forehead that required a routine visit to the hospital,” Valverde explained.

“At no point did my teammate hit me, I didn’t hit him either.”

Valverde admitted tensions boiled over during training due to frustration surrounding Real Madrid’s disappointing campaign and apologised for the incident.

“I’m sorry. I’m truly sorry because this situation hurts me, this moment we’re going through is painful,” he wrote.

Reports from Spanish media earlier in the week claimed tensions between Valverde and Tchouameni escalated during and after training sessions at the club’s Valdebebas complex, with speculation suggesting the injury may have resulted from a dressing room altercation.

Spanish newspaper Marca, however, had reported that the injury was accidental and not caused directly by a punch.

Real Madrid’s latest statement now appears to officially close the matter internally, with both players accepting punishment and reconciliation efforts already underway.
