2027: AGGRIEVED OYO APC GOVERNORSHIP ASPIRANTS RECONCILE, THROW SUPPORT BEHIND ALLI, TINUBU

Four governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State have reconciled with the party’s 2027 governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, and pledged to support the party’s bid to win the state in the next general election.
The reconciliation took place on Sunday following a series of engagements by the APC Governorship Aspirants’ Reconciliation Committee, which was established to resolve disagreements arising from the party’s governorship primary.
The four aspirants are former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan; Oyedele Alao; Musbau Asanike; and Dr Ololade Bakare.
Chairman of the reconciliation committee, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, announced the development during a press conference at Blueline Hotel in Akinyele Local Government Area of the state.
Lanlehin explained that although some of the 11 aspirants who participated in the primary had expressed concerns over the process and its outcome, the need to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 election made reconciliation imperative.
He said the committee listened to the grievances of the aspirants and found that there were more issues uniting members than dividing them.
“Today, we are pleased to announce that four distinguished governorship aspirants have agreed to put the contest behind them and work with Senator Sharafadeen Alli in the interest of the party and our victory in the 2027 General Election,” Lanlehin said.
He described the reconciliation as a triumph of “collective interest over individual ambition, reconciliation over division and unity over factionalism.”
According to him, the APC can only secure victory in the 2027 governorship election through unity, stressing that no candidate could win a general election by relying solely on supporters who backed him during the primary.
“A governorship election is won by a united political family,” Lanlehin added.
In a communique issued after the reconciliation meetings, the four aspirants pledged their “unwavering and unflinching support” for President Bola Tinubu, Alli and other APC candidates contesting the 2027 elections.
They also promised to work closely with the party and its campaign structures to ensure victory at the polls.
The committee disclosed that reconciliation with the APC’s “G6” governorship aspirants had been concluded, with the exception of Barrister Akeem Agbaje.
The reconciled aspirants also expressed their intention to meet with President Tinubu at a convenient time to reaffirm their support for his bid for another term in office in 2027.
