The Labour Party (LP) has announced a rescheduling of its previously planned primaries.

The party had earlier fixed its Governorship and State Houses of Assembly primaries for 27th May 2026, while the Presidential and National Assembly primaries were slated for 29th May 2026.

However, it now says all primaries—for President, Governor, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly—will be conducted simultaneously on Saturday, 30th May 2026.

In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party explained that the change was necessary because the earlier dates clash with major national events.

He noted that 27th May coincides with the 2026 Eid el-Kabir celebration, while 29th May marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public officials across the country.

According to him, the party considered both the spiritual importance of Eid and the national significance of the inauguration anniversary in adjusting its schedule to allow members, aspirants, and supporters to observe the occasions.

The LP also expressed regret over any inconvenience caused by the adjustment and thanked stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation.
