Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch has been fired following a poor run of results, the club announced on Monday.

Leeds were defeated by fellow relegation rivals Nottingham Forest on Sunday, dropping them one place above the bottom three in the Premier League.

“Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties,” the club said in a statement on Monday. Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and played a key role in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of the previous season. Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack, and Pierre Barrieu will all depart from the club as well.

“We’d like to thank Jesse and his backroom crew for their efforts and wish them the best in the future. The process of appointing a new head coach is currently underway, and we will keep supporters updated in the coming days.”

During and after the game, Leeds fans vented their anger at Marsch, chanting that the American manager should be fired.

The Yorkshire club has only won four league games this season and is tied for 18th place with Everton with a game in hand.

When Leeds hired Marsch in February 2022, he became the third American to coach in England’s top flight.

He took over for Leeds fan favorite Marcelo Bielsa after the club suffered a string of poor results that pushed them closer to relegation.

With a last-gasp win at Brentford on the final day of the 2022-23 season, Marsch helped the club avoid relegation.

Leeds have beaten Chelsea and Liverpool this season, but have struggled to find consistency and face another battle to stay in the league.
