EL-RUFAI INSTRUCTS KADUNA COLLECTION AGENTS TO ACCEPT OLD N500, N1000 NOTES
By ‘Leke Yusuf
The Kaduna State government on Sunday announced that it directed its ministries, departments and agencies to ensure that their collection agents continue to accept payments made in all denominations of the naira, old and new.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Muyiwa Adekeye, the Special Assistant to Governor Nasir El-Rufai; on Media and Communication.
He said that the instruction is in line with the subsisting Supreme Court order on the matter.
Last Thursday, Governor El-Rufai had announced that individuals and business should freely transact in both the new and old currencies.
The Supreme Court had on Wednesday adjourned till February 22 in a matter brought by ten state governments against the Federal Government challenging the deadline of the FG on legal tender status of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes.
Also, President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday announced the extension of validity of the old N200 notes till April 10.
Violent protests has erupted in several parts of the country due to cash scarcity occasioned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Naira redesign policy.
