NAIRA SCARCITY EXPOSES ISWAP AND BOKO HARAM TO HARDSHIP – NIGERIAN ARMY
By Adeniyi Onaara
Maj-Gen Ibrahim Ali, Theatre Commander, North East Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai, OPHK, stated that terrorists had been subjected to hardship owing to naira scarcity.
The Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) Naira swap and cashless policy, according to Ali, have helped to reduce violent extremism in the North East.
He made the remarks while speaking with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Borno State Council, on Tuesday in Maiduguri, according to a source.
The policy, according to the commander, is a beneficial measure that has reduced terrorist activity since its beginning.
“Terrorists subjected to harsh living conditions have resorted to kidnapping, seeking for ransom in cash and requesting for foodstuff from their victims,” he said.
He said that the terrorists had also resorted to propaganda on social media in their desperate attempt to remain relevant.
