UPDATE: POLAND DETAINS PLANE CARRYING PRESIDENT RAMAPHOSA’S SECURITY AIDES
According to the Polish Foreign Ministry, the plane carrying Cyril Ramaphosa’s security detail and press team was stopped owing to the presence of “dangerous materials” and “undeclared persons” on board.
Due to alleged weapons transit, the crew has been in Warsaw for two days running, while the South African leader has already landed in Ukraine.
A group of journalists accompanying Ramaphosa on his trip to Poland and Ukraine as part of the African peace mission were stuck in a plane that was still in the Polish capital of Warsaw earlier today, according to Amanda Khoza, Sunday Times presidency correspondent.
“On June 15, at Warsaw Chopin Airport, a plane with security officers of the president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, was detained.
“The situation is the result of non-compliance with the standard entry procedures required by the Polish side.
“Dangerous materials for which the South African representatives did not have permission to import were on board the aircraft.’’
In addition, there were “persons on board the aircraft who had not previously been declared to the Polish side,” the statement added.
