PLATFORM CAPITAL BOSS, AKINDELE AKINTOYE, CHARGED FOR ALLEGEDLY OFFERING N150M BRIBE TO POLICE
On Friday, August 18, 2023, Dr. Akintoye Akindele, the founder of Platform Capital, who has been detained by the police for approximately three weeks, was charged before the High Court of the FCT, Abuja.
Akindele, 49, was accused of offering a N150 million bribe to a police investigation team working on a petition that Summit Oil International Limited submitted to the Inspector General of Police (Force Intelligence Bureau) regarding alleged criminal conspiracy, criminal fund diversion, and theft amounting to millions of dollars and Naira in value.
According to information obtained by journalists, the controversial businessman is believed to have paid N50 million out of the N150 million he offered to help him escape from detention and travel abroad.
This accusation of bribery against Akindele might have justified keeping him in custody until the investigations are finished.
The N50 million bribe was sent via an account with the name “Duport Midstream Company Limited,” according to sources. The existence of this account, however, was unknown to the other directors and stockholders.
One of the sources claims that “these unsettling developments support the separate petition on over $25 million in misappropriation brought against Akindele by worried shareholders.
“This bribery charge against Akindele may have validated his continued detention until investigations are concluded.”
Akindele was granted ordinary bail terms more than two weeks ago, but he hasn’t complied with them because of the bribery charges.
Next week, he is anticipated to be charged in Abuja.
The CEO of Platinum Capital, who allegedly invests millions of dollars in start-ups throughout the world and in the US while living a luxury lifestyle, has been the subject of several fraud allegations on traditional and social media for a number of weeks.
Akindele was accused of misdeeds through his company by former music executive Lanre Dabiri, also known as ElDee, earlier this week, which led to the failure of his music business.
Others, including a well-known music producer, a chef who has won awards, and former workers, have boldly come out to share their stories in gory detail.
