GUNMEN ATTACK INEC REC’S RESIDENCE IN KOGI
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), gunmen have broken into the Lokoja, Kogi State, home of its Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).
In a press release provided to Channels Television, the commission stated that the attack occurred this Friday, December 1, 2023, at approximately 3:30 in the morning.
It stated that until reinforcements arrived, the armed individuals and security guards battled in a gunfight that lasted more than half an hour.
“While no lives were lost, property was destroyed in the ensuing gun battle. A team of combined security personnel have been deployed to protect the residence. This incident occurred a day after a mob besieged our state office,” the statement added.
The commission demanded a comprehensive inquiry as well as increased security protection for its employees and property in Kogi State.
