LASTMA TERMINATES APPOINTMENT OF FIVE OFFICIALS OVER CORRUPTION, OTHER OFFENCES
Due to allegations of corruption and other infractions, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has terminated the appointments of five of its employees.
The traffic management authority stated in a statement posted on Monday by LASTMA spokesman Adebayo Taofiq that letters of termination of appointments were given to the officers on December 8, 2023.
Taofiq stated that the Lagos State Civil Service Commission had approved the recommendation to revoke the officers’ appointments.
“While Five (5) LASTMA Officials indicted for corruptions received letter of Termination of appointment’, remaining two (2) received letter of ‘Reprimand’ for absence from duty posts without leave,” he said.
Additionally, he stated that extra administrative review was being conducted for other cases involving the 14 charged officials, while seven other police officers received reprimands for other infractions.
Likewise, Bakara Oki, the Acting General Manager of LASTMA, declared that the disciplinary procedure followed the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations, which serve as the current guidelines.
According to Oki, the agency would only improve if and when the public shared their experiences—both good and bad—and, where necessary, offered proof of alleged misdemeanours.
He pleaded with Lagos drivers to always abide by the State Traffic Law in order to avoid breaking the law and facing the penalties that are stipulated in the legislation.
