BREAKING: NOTTINGHAM FOREST FIRES STEVE COOPER, NUNO ESPIRITO FAVOURITE TO TAKE OVER
By Sefiu Ajape
After more than two years in charge, Steve Cooper has been sacked by Nottingham Forest. The team has lost five of its last six Premier League games, including a 2-0 loss to Tottenham at home last Friday. Nuno Espirito Santo is the clear favorite to take over as Forest’s next manager.
When Cooper took over in September 2021, the team was at the bottom of the Championship. That season, he guided them to the play-offs, where they defeated Huddersfield at Wembley.
He managed to keep Forest in the Premier League the previous season, having done so following a 1-0 victory over Arsenal at home in May. Since the team’s return to the top division, a lot of players have joined the team.
Nuno Espirito Santo, a former manager of Wolves and Tottenham, is the front-runner to succeed Cooper at the City Ground. Along with former Eintracht Frankfurt coach Oliver Glasner, another former Wolves manager, Julen Lopetegui, has also been considered.
Announcing the news of Cooper’s sacking, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis said: “Everyone at Nottingham Forest would like to thank Steve for his superb contribution to our football club. His achievement in guiding Forest back to the Premier League will undoubtedly remain an iconic moment in the club’s history.
“We thank Steve for his dedication and commitment during his time with us, as well as the incredible connection he forged with our supporters and the city of Nottingham.
“Steve will always remain a friend of the club and will forever be welcome at The City Ground. We wish him well in his future endeavours.”
