POLITICS: 27 RIVERS ASSEMBLY LAWMAKERS WITHDRAW IMPEACHMENT NOTICE AGAINST FUBARA
In Port Harcourt, the state capital, the 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly began meeting on Wednesday.
The legislators gathered at the House of Assembly quarters under the direction of Martin Amaewhule.
A letter signed by 27 of them—one of whom was hospitalised and could not attend—contained the notice of withdrawal, which was read aloud by their speaker, Martins Amaewhule.
According to Amaewhule, this was in keeping with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s dispute resolution involvement.
Following a disagreement between Wike and his predecessor, Fubara, the oil-rich state found itself in a precarious situation.
President Bola Tinubu met with the warring parties in collaboration with Dr. Peter Odili, the former governor of the state, as part of efforts to heal the gap.
At Abuja’s Aso Villa, a truce was mediated.
Due to the disagreement between Wike and Fubara, 27 members of the House defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is in power and whose central government Wike currently holds a ministerial position in.
Parallel sessions, a plot to remove the governor from office, the demolition of the Assembly building, and a wave of pro-Wike resignations from Fubara’s cabinet were all results of the rivalry.
