Community leaders have been urged by Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to Mr. Governor on Rural Development, to support and commit to the development of the state through self-help programmes. This is part of the state government’s efforts to ensure that Lagos State becomes a 21st-century economy.

In his keynote speech at the Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council members’ leadership training programme, which was conducted today at the Secretariat, Alausa, Agbaje made this request.

He asked the attendees to make sure that Community Development Associations’ self-help initiatives and programmes are carried out in accordance with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda.

The Special Advisor praised the Governor’s efforts to make sure community leaders have access to the knowledge they need to coordinate their self-help initiatives with his administration’s policies.

He gave them his word that the seminar would provide community leaders with the necessary tools for strategic partnerships and community development, meeting their vital and strategic demands.

Agbaje also exhorted attendees to pay close attention to all the information they would encounter during the training and to apply it to concepts that may be developed and implemented for grassroots community development.

The Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, had earlier told the attendees during her welcome speech that the purpose of the training is to familiarise Community Development Advisory Council stakeholders with the Governor’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda and how to coordinate efforts with the government for the state’s development.

She expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering efforts to guarantee development at the local level and for consistently involving community leaders in both governance and the advancement of the state, and stated that the training would assist community leaders in recognising their positions and roles within the state government’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus agenda.

She mentioned that the training will give community leaders the necessary resources to create strategic alliances across the state’s community development associations.

The Lagos State Community Advisory Council’s chairman, Alhaji Azeez Amusat, praised the governor for giving leadership development, like the workshop, top priority. He added that the training demonstrates the governor’s dedication to the Council and the grassroots development of communities.

In order to make Lagos State a 21st-century economy, Alhaji Azeez promised that the Council would make sure it contributed its fair share to guaranteeing that community development through self-help programmes would be evident throughout the state.

Members of the Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council, the Community Development Committee, and the Heads of Agric Departments from each of the 57 Councils attended the leadership training, which featured paper presentations by seasoned facilitators.
