NO CORPS MEMBER DIED IN OGUN – NYSC
The National Youth Service Corps has debunked reports of a corps member’s death in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to a news source from Monday, the adult male corpse that was allegedly found discarded in a solitary bush in Ogijo was that of a corps member.
In an interview with reporters on Tuesday in Abeokuta, the state capital, Ogun State Coordinator, NYSC, Olayinka Nasamu, called this report untrue and an outright falsehood.
According to Nasamu, there is no connection between the unidentified corpse and the NYSC.
Nasamu said, “You cannot say someone is a corps member without the code number, without the place of primary assignment, without anything identifying him as a corps member. We have a swift confirmation process; it won’t take us 30 minutes to confirm a story.
“We expect that as journalists, when you have any issue to cross-check with us, you should not waste time getting in touch with us. Our doors are opened, and it is by doing this that we can avoid misinforming the public.
“Writing what never happened is not a good image projection for us or any organization. We want a positive projection of our image. NYSC is a household name, and there’s no household that is not a benefactor of this scheme in this country. This is a heritage we should all jointly protect and project positively.”
Speaking further, she urged media outlets to collaborate with the NYSC for accurate and positive representation.
Furthermore, Nasamu emphasized that, despite the challenges, the NYSC scheme has continued to be relevant in society, attributing its resilience to the support it receives from all and sundry.
