KATSINA STATE GOVT GIVES N6 MILLION CASH GIFTS TO FAMILIES OF SECURITY AGENTS KILLED BY BANDITS

The families of four police officers and three members of the Katsina Security Watch Corps who were recently ambushed and slain by bandits in the state’s Kankara Local Government Area received a token gift of N6 million from the Katsina State Government on Thursday.
On this point, the relatives of the slain police officers and the families of the fallen members of the Katsina Security Watch Corps would each get N500,000, according to state governor Dikko Radda’s directive.
The government delegation was led by the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Isah Mohammed Kankara, to the Katsina Police Command Headquarters to deliver the gift and offer condolences to the families of the deceased and the state commissioner of police for the tragic loss. Kankara described the situation as unfortunate and inhumane.
Kankara expressed concern that lives are lost daily in Kankara, Safana, and Danmusa local government areas while delivering a gift of three million naira for the families of the four police officers who were killed on Sunday, along with two other officers who were also killed recently in Safana and Sabuwa LGAs.
He, therefore, acknowledged the commitment and dedication of the deceased officers in the ongoing onslaught against banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnapping for ransom especially in the frontline LGAs.
“On behalf of the state government, I am directed by the governor to come and condole with the command and families of the deceased. On every blessed day, we lost lives in Kankara, Safana, and Danmusa LGAs.
“As tradition has it, when an officer loses his life, a token gift is given by the state government to his family,” Kankara stated.
Speaking also, Saidu Danja, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Victims of Banditry and IDPs, stated that the state governor had instructed the delegation to make sure the token was delivered on time to the families of the fallen officers so they could easily celebrate Eid-El-Kabir this year.

On the other hand, he responded to reports circulating on other media outlets that contradicted the official statistic, claiming that sixteen people were slain in the most recent attack by the Kankara bandits and nothing else.
“The money is in the sum of three million naira for six officers killed while in active service. These consist of the recent four police officers killed including two other officers who were also killed recently in Safana and Sabuwa LGAs,” he said.
On his part, the Katsina State Police Commissioner, Abubakar Musa, thanked the delegation for the condolence visit, stating that he was highly touched by the incident.
He restated his commitment to tackling banditry, calling on other governors in the North-West to emulate Radda.
According to the commissioner, the banditry level in the state has come down reasonably as a result of the efforts by the state government and security agencies which is being propelled with prayers by the good people of the state.
“We have seen the passion of the governor and his executive council in addressing banditry. The governor really encourages us. People should continue assisting him with prayers.
“With the commitments, the attacks have come down reasonably due to prayers by people because farming was not possible but now, we thank God for the logistics support we are getting from the governor,” CP Musa added.
