In a significant step towards enhancing the synergy between National and State Identity Management systems, the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) recently hosted Principal Officials of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on a courtesy visit to (LASRRA) on Thursday at the Agency’s Office at Agidingbi, Ikeja.

Welcoming the team, the General Manager of LASRRA, Bilikiss Adebiyi-Abiola expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration and acknowledged the fact that LASRRA is NIMC’s super-agent. She emphasised that a unified approach to identity management would significantly improve service delivery and enhance security across the State.

“By working together, a strong partnership is built and having access to NIMC’s database makes us more robust. Our collaboration will underscore our commitments to fostering a seamless identity management process that benefits all Nigerians”, she said

Adebiyi-Abiola further explained that meeting is critical as Nigeria continues to strengthen its digital identity framework. The collaboration will aid authentication and verification of residents.

The State Coordinator of National Identity Management Commission, Lagos East, Mr. Olumide Aremu, who led the delegation, said, apart from the Principal Officials of the two Agencies familiarising with one another, the visit aims to explore collaborative opportunities under NIMC’s new card regime, which intends to streamline and enhance the process of identity verification across the country.

He highlighted the importance of integrating efforts to ensure that both Organisations work hand-in-hand to improve the accessibility and efficiency of identity services for all residents.

Aremu also emphasised the need to leverage technology, share data and create awareness about the new card regime, adding that 13 million residents of Lagos are on NIMC’s database.

Other members of the visiting include Engr. Ajibade Ayeni, State Coordinator Lagos Central; Lasis Oladele, State Coordinator, Lagos West; Mike Adebayo, Head Admin and Human Resources and Amao Motunrayo, NIMC’s System Engineer.

NIMC is responsible for the National Identity Management framework in Nigeria, a foundational identifier while LASRRA focuses on maintaining a reliable database of residents in Lagos State.
