LAGOS GOVT SET FOR CIVIC WEEK TO BOOST COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement, has announced that preparations are on for the 2024 Civic Week, which is slated to take place in November, as part of its efforts to promote community engagement and increase civic responsibilities.
During an interactive session with the press on Tuesday in his Alausa, Ikeja office, the Special Adviser of the Office of Political, Legislative, and Civic Engagement disclosed this.
According to the Special Advisor, Civic Week will give citizens a chance to speak with government representatives directly and voice their opinions on topics that impact their communities. This will aid in the government’s decision-making process.
Speaking about the Office’s other endeavors, Afolabi stated that certain members of the Management Staff will be making a working visit to the National Assembly to witness plenary sessions from October 9–11, 2024, in accordance with the Office’s mandate to serve as a liaison between the Executive and Legislative branches.
He continued by saying that the working tour is a component of the Office’s attempt to strengthen the national synergy between the State Government and the Lagos State Representatives.
The Special Adviser reiterated his support for the “Flag-Up Lagos Project” and stated that the Office has obtained the Nigerian and Lagos State flags to be presented to the lawmakers as a symbol of their shared commitment to upholding justice, equity, and the shared mission of strengthening democracy while providing democratic dividends to the people they represent and serve.
In addition, Dr. Afolabi discussed the new channels for citizen engagement that the Lagos State Government has established. She stated that the vast amount of feedback received thus far has opened the government’s eyes. The responses are being collated and will be presented at the Lagos State Executive meeting, where strategies for promptly resolving the concerns raised will be developed.
The Special Advisor thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to the people of Lagos State and cautioned the people of Lagos to exercise patience with the government and avoid engaging in any aggressive behavior that could result in the loss of life, property, or infrastructure that was funded by taxpayers.
