LAKURAWA: TROOPS BATTLE TERRORISTS IN KEBBI
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has deployed a contingent of soldiers to the troubled Augie Local Government Area in Kebbi State, following attacks by a new terrorist group known as Lakurawa.
The group recently attacked Mera village, killing over 15 people.
The deployment follows an urgent appeal from Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris. He asked for federal support to curb the group’s violent activities.
Upon arrival, the troops, equipped with armored tanks and advanced weaponry, met with Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Tafida. They then proceeded to Mera.
The military engaged the terrorists, forcing them to retreat. The soldiers rescued rustled cattle abandoned by the group as they fled.
Abdullahi Idris Zuru, the governor’s media aide for communication and strategy, stated that the deployment was essential as the new armed groups are severely disrupting life for rural residents.
“The governor has pledged to ensure the safety of lives and properties for all Kebbi State citizens, prompting him to seek federal assistance to counter terrorism across the state,” Zuru emphasized.
The recent attack on Mera village by the Lakurawa group has displaced many residents and left the community reeling from loss.
