The first and pre-hearing session of the 2024 Edo Governorship Election Petition Tribunal is scheduled to begin. The petitions contest the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to declare Monday Okpebholo, the APC’s candidate for governor, the victor of the September 21 governorship election.
As of this morning, the tribunal is considering seven petitions, including one from Asue Ighodalo, the governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The results of the September 21, 2024, governorship election were announced by INEC on Sunday, September 22. The PDP candidate came in second place, while Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party candidate, came in third.
