UPDATE: FALSE KIDNAP ALARM IN AGO OKOTA
In response to a viral video showing unidentified individuals in Victory Estate, Ago Okota, beating and humiliating three young men accused of being kidnappers, the Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, CP Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, held a fact-finding meeting on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The meeting included the Estate Chairman, Chief Security Officer, two other residents, and one of the men featured in the video.
After a thorough investigation, it was conclusively determined that the three men in the video were not kidnappers and that no kidnapping occurred at the Estate. The Estate Chairman, the Chief Security Officer, and another member of the Security Committee all confirmed that the men were not involved in kidnapping, and there was no incident as falsely portrayed in the video circulating on social media.
The video has been deemed false, misleading, and intended to spread fear and anxiety within the Estate. The men had simply visited a friend (who was also present at the CP’s meeting) around 10pm on Monday, February 17, 2025. An argument between the men and a tricycle rider escalated, causing confusion and commotion at the time.
The Lagos State Police Command urges residents to verify information before sharing it to prevent the spread of panic and fear that could disrupt peace or endanger lives. Citizens are reminded not to take the law into their own hands.
Lagosians are encouraged to continue their daily activities without fear of harassment or intimidation, and assured that the police are fully committed to ensuring their safety and security at all times.
