GOOGLE LAUNCHES AI CO-SCIENTISTS TO ASSIST IN RESEARCH
Google has introduced an Artificial Intelligence system aimed at helping scientists create research hypotheses and plan experiments, further advancing its focus on AI-driven research tools.
In a blog post on Wednesday, the company explained that the AI Co-Scientist system is based on Google’s Gemini 2.0 model.
It enables researchers to communicate a scientific objective in natural language, after which the system suggests testable hypotheses, summarizes relevant existing literature, and recommends potential experimental methods.
“AI Co-Scientist is a collaborative tool to help experts gather research and refine their work — it’s not meant to automate the scientific process,” the tech giant said. “We’re excited to see how researchers will use the system.”
Google’s initiative comes at a time when AI is increasingly influencing scientific research, with various companies and institutions exploring its potential to speed up breakthroughs in fields such as medicine, climate science, and materials engineering.
Google characterizes the AI Co-Scientist system as a supportive tool, rather than a substitute for human expertise. It is anticipated to help researchers generate new hypotheses, especially in complex areas like disease modeling and molecular biology.
