Three officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) are currently receiving medical treatment after sustaining gunshot wounds during an attack by armed men in the course of a raid in the Jahi area of Abuja on Thursday night.

This was revealed in a statement issued by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy.

‎According to Babafemi, the attack occurred when NDLEA operatives, acting on intelligence and surveillance, stormed an uncompleted building in the NNPC area of Jahi. The operation led to the seizure of 74 bottles of codeine, 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol (225mg), 4.9 kilograms of skunk (a type of cannabis), and five Android phones.

‎As the NDLEA operatives were leaving the scene, they were ambushed with gunfire. Three officers sustained gunshot wounds—one was struck in the rib, while the other two were injured in the back and leg.

The wounded personnel were first treated at the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 for stabilization, before being moved to the National Hospital in Abuja for further care.

‎In response to the incident, NDLEA Chairman and CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), expressed gratitude to the Police Clinic staff for their swift assistance.

He also extended his thanks to the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, whom he contacted directly, for ensuring the injured officers received proper medical attention.

‎While on official duty in Kano, Marwa spoke with the injured officers via phone, offering words of encouragement and wishing them a quick recovery.

He assured them that the agency, in collaboration with other security forces, would take all necessary actions to track down and prosecute those behind the attack.
