SIX PEOPLE DEAD, OTHERS INJURED IN MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS IN KOGI
A Federal Road Safety Corps officer has confirmed that a multiple vehicle incident in Kogi State’s Okene Local Government Area has left six people reported dead and five others injured.
Mr. Samuel Ogundayo, the acting Sector Commander for the FRSC in Kogi, revealed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Okene on Tuesday.
Around 8.30 p.m. on Monday, the accident happened at the Okenkwe hamlet of Okene and involved seven vehicles, according to the Ag. sector commander, who called the incident “tragic and very unfortunate.”
The sad event started when a truck lost its brakes and slid backwards, smashing two tricycles, three automobiles, and colliding with another truck because it was unable to ascend the Okengwe slope, according to Ogundayo.
“The tragic and unfortunate incident left six people dead and five others injured.
“The FRSC rescue operatives who arrived the accident scene in good time rushed the injured to the Referral Hospital, Okene for treatment, while the corpses of the dead were deposited at Mortuary of the Onene General hospital, ” he stated.
According to him, it took the efforts of his officers and other security agencies to clear the gridlock on the highway for the free flow of traffic.
The commander urged motorists to maintain a safe distance from trucks on highways, especially in hilly areas, to prevent accidents in the event of brake failure.
He also encouraged drivers to adhere to traffic rules and regulations to help reduce road crashes and fatalities.
