UNILORIN SUSPENDS WEEKLY PENALTY ON UNCLAIMED CERTIFICATES, GIVES 6-WEEK GRACE
The University of Ilorin has announced a temporary suspension of the weekly penalty imposed on graduates who failed to collect their certificates by the initial deadline of January 17, 2025.
In an internal memorandum issued by the Registrar, M.A. Alfanla, the university stated that the decision followed an avalanche of appeals from alumni, students, and concerned individuals urging the school to reconsider its N3,000 weekly penalty.
Following a management meeting held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, the university approved a six-week grace period during which the penalty will be frozen. This window, which runs from Tuesday, April 22 to Monday, June 2, 2025, allows affected graduates to collect their certificates without additional weekly charges.
The university clarified that the current accrued penalty of ₦39,000 remains payable by all graduates collecting their certificates, but no further increment will occur during the six-week suspension.
“All graduates who wish to collect their certificates should make the above payment within the specified window,” the memo reads.
After June 2, 2025, the university said the weekly penalty would be reactivated.
