The Lagos State Police Command has announced major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against crime, with the recovery of 36 stolen vehicles, the arrest of 23 suspected cultists, and 52 individuals apprehended for various sexual and gender-based offences.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohunde Jimoh, disclosed these achievements during a press briefing in Ikeja, highlighting the effectiveness of new crime prevention strategies introduced since his assumption of office earlier this year.

Among the notable successes, CP Jimoh revealed that 36 vehicles, some stolen from within Lagos and others snatched from outside the state en route to neighbouring countries have been recovered. The vehicles include high-end brands such as Lexus, Toyota, Honda, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.

“These recoveries were made possible through coordinated intelligence, tactical operations, and the cooperation of the public,” Jimoh stated. He urged victims of vehicle theft to visit the Command Headquarters with proof of ownership to reclaim their property.

In a bid to curtail cult-related violence, the Commissioner announced the establishment of Anti-Cultism Squads across the state’s 14 Area Commands, each headed by a Chief Superintendent of Police. Within weeks of operation, 23 suspected cultists were arrested during raids across Mushin, Oshodi, Lagos Island, Bariga, Ilasamaja, Ikorodu, and other areas.

Some suspects, including Christian Chukwudi Udanoh and Olamilekan Lawal, have already been charged to court, while others remain under investigation.

The Command also made significant strides in addressing sexual and gender-based violence. A total of 52 suspects were arrested for offences ranging from rape and defilement to domestic violence and child trafficking. Out of these, 44 have been charged to court, while 8 remain under investigation.

Breakdown of cases includes: 2 cases of rape, 26 of defilement,4 of sexual assault by penetration, 1 each of grievous harm, child trafficking, and child stealing, 4 cases of domestic violence

The police recovered a cache of weapons including 81 high-caliber firearms, 213 rounds of live ammunition, 43 cartridges, and other dangerous items such as axes, cutlasses, and toy guns. These were seized from suspects linked to armed robbery, cultism, and murder.

CP Jimoh reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to making Lagos unsafe for criminals, while praising the public, the Lagos State Government, and the Inspector-General of Police for their continued support.

“To the criminal elements, your time is up. Lagos will not be a safe haven for you,” he warned.

The Commissioner concluded by urging Lagosians to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information that would help in maintaining law and order across the state.
