Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, in collaboration with the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), have neutralised 10 Boko Haram terrorists during a coordinated offensive along the Rann–Gamboru Ngala axis, near the Nigeria–Cameroon border.
The operation, which took place over the weekend, was confirmed on Tuesday by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye. He said the mission was part of a broader strategy to eliminate the remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists operating in the Lake Chad Basin.
According to Kangye, the combined Nigerian and MNJTF forces launched the offensive after receiving credible intelligence on the terrorists’ location between Rann and Gamboru. A fierce gun battle ensued, with troops overpowering the insurgents and killing 10 fighters.
“The encounter occurred during a combined operation strategically designed and executed to flush out remnants of BH/ISWAP terrorists operating within the border communities,” Kangye stated.
Troops also recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including anti-aircraft rounds. The seized weapons are currently undergoing technical analysis, while clearance operations continue in the area to locate any fleeing terrorists and destroy additional hideouts.
Kangye stressed that the operation forms part of an ongoing military campaign to secure the southern Lake Chad region and prevent cross-border terrorist movement. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, MNJTF, hybrid forces, and other security agencies to maintain pressure until all terrorist elements in Northern Borno and the wider Lake Chad Basin are completely dismantled.
