The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has called for urgent and deliberate action to ensure that the newly launched Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy and Roadmap leads to real impact for women across the state.

Speaking through the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, at the official launch event held at Shell Hall, Muson Centre on Tuesday, the First Lady described the initiative as “a bold and strategic move, not just in planning, but in deliberately responding to the needs, dreams, and aspirations of women across every community in our state.”

She emphasized that the policy signals “a shift from limitation to opportunity, from silence to inclusion, and from mere survival to sustainable success,” adding that it was carefully crafted to address the multiple forms of inequality that women face.

“This roadmap has been basically designed to address the multiple areas of inequality women face, including limited access to financial resources and skills training, as well as systematic gender bias in leadership and empowerment,” she said.

Highlighting the importance of the five priority focus areas—agriculture, entrepreneurship, education, emerging industries, and traditional labour markets—the First Lady said the roadmap ensures that women are “not only safe and heard but empowered, supported and given the space to lead.”

She declared, “This one sends a clear message. We are no longer asking whether women should be included. We are ensuring that they are equipped, enabled, and elevated.”

However, the First Lady stressed that the real test lies beyond the policy’s launch and documentation.

“Yet, beyond the policy documents and ceremonial events, the real question remains, how do we translate this roadmap into great impact? How do we ensure a woman in Ikolodu, a girl in Epe, or a widow in Alimosho, feels the tangible differences this roadmap promises?”

She maintained that the answers lie in unity and continued commitment.

“The answer lies in our collaboration, consistency, compassion. This is not the time to set back. It is the time to press forward with deliberate actions to all women across Lagos State.”

In an inspiring closing, Dr. Sanwo-Olu offered a powerful call to action: “I say this to you with clarity and conviction. You matter. Your work matters. Your dance matters. This is your moment. Step forward and take your place with pride and confidence.”

Reaffirming her support for the initiative, she urged all stakeholders to remain steadfast. “Let us all stay committed and focused because when women are empowered the entire community are transformed”, she concluded.
