Popular Nigerian rapper CDQ has revealed that Afrobeats superstar Davido once offered him a record deal, which he ultimately declined.

According to CDQ, the offer came after the success of his breakout hit, Indomie. While Davido was interested in signing him to his label, CDQ’s producer, Masterkraft, proposed a partnership deal instead—a move Davido turned down.

CDQ shared the story during a recent interview with the Echo Room.

CDQ said, “Davido contacted me on Twitter back then, expressing his interest in signing me. He mentioned that he had just earned a significant amount from his African tour and wanted to invest it to help make me the biggest rapper in Africa.

“I told him that whatever happens, Masterkraft had to be involved. So, Masterkraft and I met with Davido, and Masterkraft explained that CDQ was already making waves on the streets and suggested a partnership instead of a traditional recording deal. However, Davido declined, and the deal ultimately fell through.”
