LAGOS MAGISTRATE COURT SENTENCE CABLE THIEF TO 10 MONTHS IN PRISON

The Lagos State Electrification Agency (LSEA) has announced the arrest and conviction of Mr. Inya Bethel, a native of Plateau State, for the theft of electrical cable infrastructure.

Bethel was apprehended during the theft on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at approximately 11:45 a.m. along Bank Road, near Tiger Bar in Ikoyi, Lagos. He was arraigned on Monday, July 21, 2025, before the Lagos State Magistrate Court, where he was found guilty on three counts and sentenced to 10 months in prison: One month, three months, and six months on each count, respectively, without the option of a fine.

The LSEA commends the swift response of the Lagos State Magistrate Court and reaffirms its commitment to protecting public electricity infrastructure. The Agency will continue working closely with law enforcement and the judiciary to deter vandalism and ensure the integrity of the state’s critical power assets.
