The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has reported that air quality in several parts of Lagos is currently at levels classified as “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” (UfSG), according to its latest Air Quality Index (AQI) update.

The AQI figures, released Monday by LASEPA’s General Manager, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, via his verified X handle, indicate elevated pollution levels across much of the state, posing potential health concerns for vulnerable populations.

Kosofe (LAMATA) recorded the highest AQI reading at 25, followed closely by Victoria Island (20), Igando (18), and the UNILAG CRL monitoring station (18). Other affected areas include Moloney Street, Akodo, Lagos Island, and Mushin each recording AQI values of 16.

Although these levels are not considered immediately dangerous to the general public, LASEPA cautioned that they could impact individuals with pre-existing respiratory conditions, senior citizens, and young children.

On a positive note, Egbeda and the NiMET station in Oshodi reported AQI readings of 11 and 10 respectively both falling within the “Good” category and posing minimal risk.

The agency reiterated its commitment to continuous monitoring and encouraged residents, especially those in sensitive groups, to limit outdoor exposure during periods of elevated pollution.
