The Muslim Council of Taraba State has announced a ban on all forms of wedding parties within Jalingo, the state capital, following consultations with Islamic clerics, traditional rulers, and local authorities.
The ban, which targets popular events such as Kauyawa and Ajo parties often associated with late-night gatherings of youths was the central focus of sermons delivered by imams across Jummat mosques in Jalingo last Friday.
Conveying the decision on behalf of the council, Imam Tajudeen Nuhu, Chief Imam of Mayo Gwoi Jummat Mosque, said the ban is binding on all households.
“Henceforth, it is forbidden for any household to hold ‘Kauyawa,’ ‘Ajo,’ or any form of celebration during weddings here in Jalingo. Defaulters face stiff sanctions: no imam will conduct their Nikah (marriage contract). Worse still, funeral prayers, naming ceremonies, or wedding lectures will not be held in their homes,” he declared.
The council also warned clerics against attending such banned events, cautioning that violators risk losing their positions.
It urged strict compliance across the Muslim community in Jalingo.
