The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a 33-year-old man, Anas Ahmed, his wife, Halimatu, and their young daughter, Jidda, in the Katsina metropolitan area in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the attack occurred around 3:00 a.m. at Filin Canada Quarters, where the armed assailants invaded Ahmed’s residence.

During the attack, the gunmen fatally shot Abdullahi Muhammad, a 25-year-old member of the local vigilante group, before escaping with the kidnapped family.

“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO rushed to the scene, restored normalcy in the area, and launched an investigation to track down and arrest the perpetrators,” the police spokesman said.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, accompanied by senior officers and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment. He also ordered the deployment of additional personnel and resources to ensure the victims’ safe rescue and the arrest of the culprits.

The command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies through the nearest police station or the command’s emergency hotlines.

“We further call on anyone with useful information to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation. All information will be treated with utmost confidentiality,” the police assured.
