Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has characterized those advocating for the ousting of President Bola Tinubu as “power-hungry politicians” who perceive themselves as politically marginalized.

The presidential aide expressed this viewpoint in response to an interview featuring former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on Channels Television on Sunday evening.

Onanuga, in a statement posted on his X account on Monday, specifically called out El-Rufai, accusing him of leading the charge in the campaign despite previously acknowledging that a four-year term is insufficient for any leader to effectuate “meaningful changes. ”

“Nasir El-Rufai admits here that four years is not adequate for a political office holder to enact ‘meaningful changes. ’ Yet he is spearheading the coalition of political opportunists scheming for President Tinubu’s removal, merely two years into his administration. What a contradiction! ”

“In contrast to the political stagnators and underperformers who previously held gubernatorial positions in Anambra, Rivers, and Kaduna, President Tinubu and his team have enacted substantial transformations in our nation over the preceding two years, setting us on a trajectory towards prosperity,” he articulated.

The presidential aide contended that Tinubu’s administration had attained remarkable advancements within two years, referencing elevated foreign reserves, stock market growth, the harmonization of the exchange rate, and four consecutive months of declining inflation.

“Extraordinary wealth generation in the stock market has propelled the ASI from 53,000 points to exceeding 140,000 points. More than N26 trillion in additional wealth has been generated in the market under Tinubu’s stewardship,” he remarked.

Onanuga additionally highlighted advancements in education and social welfare, encompassing student loans via NELFUND and financial assistance to at-risk households.

He noted that states and local authorities were obtaining increased financial support from the central government, allowing them to initiate capital projects and generate employment opportunities.

“The governors expressed that they have never experienced such favorable conditions,” he remarked.
He emphasized that those orchestrating the purported conspiracy were motivated by desperation.

“Nevertheless, these power-seeking politicians seek the ousting of the President, who has accomplished considerable progress, solely because they have become politically marginalized and insignificant. May they never prevail in their schemes against our nation and its citizens,” he stated.

Onanuga further mentioned that El-Rufai’s previous remarks would be wielded against him during electoral campaigns.

“Please retain the video. We shall hold Nasir accountable with it when campaigning commences,” he added.
