INEC OSUN DISMISSES ADC’S CLAIM OF “IMPLAUSIBLE” VOTER REGISTRATION FIGURES

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has dismissed allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that figures from the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise were “statistically implausible.”
In a statement issued by the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, Musa Olurode, on behalf of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, INEC described the ADC’s claims as “unfounded and baseless,” stressing that Osun State has consistently ranked high in civic participation and voter registration enthusiasm.
According to the Commission, Osun led all states of the federation in online pre-registration during the CVR exercises that preceded both the 2022 Governorship Election and the 2023 General Elections. “This is not conjecture but a verifiable fact from official INEC records,” the statement noted.
INEC clarified that online pre-registration is only the first step in the process and does not automatically confer the status of a registered voter without subsequent biometric validation at designated centres. It said any attempt to mislead the public by equating online pre-registration with actual voter registration was misleading.
“The ADC’s claim of ‘statistical implausibility’ is untrue. The figures recorded so far are consistent with Osun’s history of active civic engagement and should be celebrated as evidence of democratic awareness rather than disparaged,” the Commission said.
INEC further advised political parties to verify facts before rushing to the press with allegations, warning that misinformation undermines the collective efforts to ensure credible elections. Instead, it urged parties to focus on sensitization and mobilization of eligible Nigerians to participate in the CVR.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and credibility, INEC Osun said the high turnout recorded in the state was a direct result of sustained enlightenment campaigns. “The ongoing CVR exercise in Osun and across the federation is being conducted in strict compliance with the Electoral Act 2022, INEC guidelines, and global best practices,” it concluded.
