EID-EL-MAULUD: WIKE URGES PEACE AND COMPASSION

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has appealed to the inhabitants of Abuja to uphold the principles of tranquility, empathy, and solidarity as Muslims worldwide commemorate Eid-el-Maulud, the observance of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
In his address to FCT residents on Friday, Wike conveyed heartfelt greetings on behalf of the administration and characterized the occasion as a reminder of the Prophet’s teachings on acceptance, love, and benevolence.

He stated, “Eid-el-Maulud is not merely a celebration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birth; it is an opportunity for us to unite as residents of the FCT to reaffirm our dedication to the values of acceptance, love, and kindness that the Prophet espoused. It is a moment to reflect on the significance of compassion and the virtues of unity that should govern our interactions with one another, regardless of our beliefs. ”
The minister commended the residents for their dedication to peace and harmony, noting that their collaboration had facilitated the administration’s progress since taking office. He also expressed gratitude to law enforcement agencies, healthcare workers, and essential service providers for ensuring the city’s safety and functionality.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment, Wike affirmed that the FCTA would continue to prioritize infrastructure, security, healthcare, and emergency services to enhance the quality of life for residents. He encouraged the community to fulfill their roles by adhering to traffic regulations, paying taxes, and participating in civic responsibilities.
He added, “As we honor this day, I urge you all to extend a gesture of friendship, engage with your neighbors, regardless of their background or beliefs, and cultivate a spirit of community. Participate in initiatives that foster social cohesion, economic development, and environmental sustainability. I also encourage you all to fulfill your obligations to the government and society. Contribute to the advancement and progression of our esteemed FCT by abiding by traffic laws, remitting your taxes, and partaking in civic engagements.
“I implore you to utilize this significant occasion to also pray for the success of our President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We appreciate his support for the FCT Administration and his endeavors toward the development of the nation’s capital and the enhancement of its populace. ”
The minister urged for prayers for peace, prosperity, and progress in the FCT and Nigeria as a whole.
Eid-el-Maulud is annually celebrated by Muslims to honor the birth of Prophet Muhammad. In Nigeria, it is typically marked by prayers, lectures, and community service.
Over the years, political leaders have frequently utilized this occasion to advocate for national unity and peaceful coexistence in a nation characterized by diverse ethnic and religious groups.
The celebration coincides with the FCT Administration’s ongoing efforts in infrastructure projects and reforms designed to address increasing population pressures, security challenges, and the need for enhanced public services.
The Federal Government has also committed to supporting the development of Abuja as the nation’s capital while pursuing broader national unity.
