The Ondo State Police Command has recovered stolen items valued at N2.8 million and arrested six suspects linked to a burglary in Akure, the state capital.

Police spokesperson, SP Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the development in a statement on Friday, describing it as part of the command’s intensified crime detection and prevention efforts.

According to him, the case began on August 27 when Musa Abdullahi of Akure reported that his wife’s shop in the Osokoti area was broken into. Items stolen included N300,000 cash, a deep freezer with stabiliser worth N500,000, foodstuffs, valuables, and seven 25-litre jerrycans of vegetable oil, all estimated at N2.8 million.

During investigations, members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) apprehended one Adegule Segun of Osokoti Layout with suspected stolen property and handed him over to the police. His interrogation led to the arrest of another suspect, Dayo Lawson of Ondo Town.

Lawson’s confession provided vital leads that enabled the police to arrest three suspected receivers Murtala Kabiru, Damilola Oyateru, and Ijilusi Opeyemi.

Ayanlade said efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang still at large. He commended the vigilance of OPC members and praised the swift response of police operatives.

“The command remains committed to working with stakeholders, security agencies, community groups, and non-state actors to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state,” he said.

He further urged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to provide credible information to security agencies to help curb criminal activities in the state.
