Nigeria revived their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a hard-fought 1–0 win over Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

The breakthrough came in the 51st minute when Tolu Arokodare pounced on a loose ball inside the box and calmly slotted past the Rwandan goalkeeper.

The first half had ended goalless, with both sides adopting a cautious approach. Nigeria’s backline, led by Calvin Bassey, stayed solid despite Rwanda’s tactical adjustments after the break.

The Super Eagles suffered an early setback when Victor Osimhen limped off and was replaced by Cyril Dessers, but the team held their nerve to claim a crucial three points.

With the win, Nigeria now sits on 10 points from seven matches in Group C, while Rwanda stays on 8 points, keeping the qualification race wide open.

Fans flooded social media with mixed reactions—praising the side’s resilience while voicing concern over Osimhen’s injury.

Nigeria will look to sustain this momentum as they push for a ticket to the 2026 World Cup.
