The Oyo State Police Command has announced the recovery of a silver Toyota Corolla Sport stolen from an e-hailing driver during an armed robbery in Ibadan.
Police spokesperson, Osifeso Adewale, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, identifying the vehicle as bearing registration number LSR 893CX. He said the recovery followed a swift anti-robbery operation by the command’s special squad.
According to him, the operation was part of intensified efforts to curb the recent surge in attacks on ride-hailing drivers in the state.
“In recent weeks, there has been an alarming rise in reports of armed robbers attacking Uber drivers at gunpoint, resulting in the theft of their vehicles and cash,” the statement read.
The case, initially reported at the Iyaganku Divisional Police Headquarters, was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, where the Anti-Robbery Squad launched surveillance and tracking efforts that led to the recovery.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, hailed the breakthrough as evidence of the command’s proactive stance against crime.
“The recovery of the stolen vehicle reflects our determination to confront crime proactively. We are dedicated to protecting our citizens and ensuring those responsible for these criminal acts are brought to justice,” he said.
The command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, assuring that it remained steadfast in safeguarding lives and property across the state.
