The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the killing of three officers and the disappearance of seven others following a deadly ambush on its Tactical Teams in Benue State.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the incident occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Agu Centre, Katsina-Ala/Ukum Local Government Area, where suspected armed herdsmen and local militias attacked the officers.
According to Hundeyin, six suspects have so far been arrested and are assisting investigators with useful information. He added that the Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Innocent Ifeanyi Emenari, is leading a manhunt and rescue operation for the missing personnel.
“The attack resulted in the death of three police officers, while seven others are still missing. The Commissioner of Police is currently leading the operation geared towards rescuing the missing officers and arresting the fleeing suspects,” the statement read.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, condemned the assault, describing it as “cruel, unwarranted, and an affront on the good people of Benue State.” He has ordered the deployment of additional tactical assets to the troubled area, assuring that no effort will be spared in restoring peace and security.
This latest ambush comes just days after a similar attack in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, near the boundary with Kwara State, where three officers were killed at a security checkpoint on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
The Force urged Nigerians to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies as efforts continue to track down the perpetrators and rescue the missing officers.
